Or maybe not. Continue reading Designing Hamilton’s Public Community Parks for Modern Kids Parents & Grand Parents

In the News – City Matters – Ward 8 Candidate John-Paul Danko Discusses Councillor Skelly’s Vacancy

It is common practice when the winner of an event must give up their spot, the victory falls to the second place finisher.  Seems simple right?  This approach has been used by many municipalities too, where a vacant seat is filled by the runner-up during the election for said seat.

I believe that this is the most democratic solution now available to Hamilton City Council as they must fill Councillor Skelly’s (soon to be) vacant seat.

In the News – AM900 CHML – Ward 8 Candidate John-Paul Danko Makes a Case for Empty Council Seat

With the departure of Councilor Skelly to Queens Park, Hamilton City Council now faces the task of filling her vacant council seat before the October 22 2018 municipal election.

Experience speaks volumes, yes. But this doesn’t mean hiring someone familiar to do the job when there’s someone who is also qualified and has a fresh perspective.

Imagine running the 100 yard dash with 22 other athletes and come up just short at the finish line – except in politics there is no prize for second place.

92 votes.  That’s what separated my campaign from Donna Skelly’s during the 2016 election for Ward 7 Councillor.  Councillor Skelly worked very hard and ran a great campaign. In the New Ward 8, we know we have to work even harder to make sure that the margin is much larger, and in our favour.

Ward Boundary Division Creates New Ward 8

Some said it was an attack on rural life.  Others felt it was a long time coming.  In the end, council voted 8-7 in favour of not appealing an Ontario Municipal Board decision to redraw Hamilton’s Ward boundaries.

Ward 14 was eliminated in rural Flamborough – dividing it between Dundas and Ancaster.  Other ward boundaries changed too,  including  the New Ward 8.

With your support, I am hoping to represent our new landmark at Hamilton City Council after the municipal election on October 22nd, 2018.
