Statement: 2018 Municipal Election Candidate John-Paul Danko Looks to Fill Open Ward 8 Seat

Hamilton, Ontario (Monday, July 30, 2018) – Nominations for Hamilton’s 2018 Municipal Election closed on Friday with six candidates in the race for Ward 8 City Councillor. With former Ward 8 Councillor Terry Whitehead nominated to run in Ward 14, Ward 8 is now an open race which will see a new member elected to city council on October 22nd. This will be the first election using the updated boundaries for the new Ward 8: from Garth Street to Upper Wellington, from the mountain brow to the hydro corridor just south of Rymal Road. This new ward on Hamilton mountain and the elimination of a rural ward in Flambourough, could shift the entire voting dynamic on City Council. The new Ward 8 consists of approximately 45% from the old Ward 7 and 55% from the old Ward 8. After finishing just 92 votes short of former Ward 7 Councillor Donna Skelly in the 2016 Ward 7 by-election, John-Paul Danko promises to be one of the leading candidates for Ward 8.

“Now that nominations have closed, I want to welcome all candidates to the race for Ward 8. With an extra ward added to Hamilton mountain, this is a very important election for Ward 8 and the city. The new Ward 8 Councillor will have a critical vote on many important issues, directly influencing the direction our City takes over the next four years. During the 2016 by-election and through my work in the community since, I have had the opportunity to speak with thousands of residents. I am looking forward to meeting as many more Ward 8 residents as I can over the next few months. I invite all residents to contact me directly to discuss any issues that they would like to see addressed by the next City Council. I can be reached though my campaign website (, Twitter (@JohnPaulDanko) or by phone (905-818-5711).”

Having worked with John-Paul on a project recently I was most impressed with his willingness to look at a problem from every angle and perspective, this is not a guy who is afraid to think outside the box and advocate for what he believes in.

I wish John-Paul Danko had been the Councillor for Ward 8 during the ARC, he has already proven he wouldn't have been afraid to get involved with the process, get his hands dirty and work with the community!

We need city councilors who aren't just there to get elected over and over. I think you'll do great - good luck.
