Hamilton Spectator Candidate Biography

John-Paul Danko – Candidate for Ward 8
Published Saturday July 28th, 2018

Name:  John-Paul Danko, P. Eng.

Age: 40

Current job: Professional Civil Engineer

Past political/relevant experience: 20 years’ experience working with municipalities across Ontario. Founding and executive member of the Centremount Neighbourhood Association, Close 2nd to Donna Skelly in 2016 by-election. Senior project manager & small business owner.

Do you live in the ward: Yes – 15 years in the new Ward 8 and a lifelong mountain resident.

Top three ward priorities? (50 words max): If elected to the #newWard 8, I will work to: build safe, vibrant, inclusive, family friendly communities that are amazing places to live and work; cut red tape at city hall to promote business and jobs; and find smarter solutions to traffic congestion, speeding, infrastructure repairs and maintenance.

Top citywide issue: Reducing the residential tax burden.

Do you support the city’s planned LRT: LRT is the catalyst for jobs and millions in new tax revenue, benefiting everyone.

Why are you the right choice for this ward? (100 words max): We need a Ward 8 Councillor who is ready to stop talking and start doing! I am a professional civil engineer and small business owner – not a politician.

I am running where I live, in Ward 8 with my wife and children. I’m proud to be an independent candidate not affiliated with any political party, union or other special interest.

I solve complicated problems for a living and I would be honoured to bring real world experience to City Council as we work to become a vibrant, prosperous city. Please get in touch at www.jpdanko.com or on Twitter @JohnPaulDanko

We need city councilors who aren't just there to get elected over and over. I think you'll do great - good luck.

Having worked with John-Paul on a project recently I was most impressed with his willingness to look at a problem from every angle and perspective, this is not a guy who is afraid to think outside the box and advocate for what he believes in.

Duane Civil Engineer, Grimsby

I wish John-Paul Danko had been the Councillor for Ward 8 during the ARC, he has already proven he wouldn't have been afraid to get involved with the process, get his hands dirty and work with the community!

Stefanie Store Manager, Resident-Ward 8, Hamilton Central Mountain

Finally a candidate I can get excited about voting for! John-Paul has integrity, vision and a very personal stake in the future of Ward 8.

  1. Our family would like to thank John Paul Danko for helping us solve a neighbourhood issue over a month before the election has even taken place. He visited us, took the time to listen and discuss — he was well-informed, intelligent, easy to talk to and extremely helpful. You should get quite a few votes in our neighbourhood.
