Since registering to run for Hamilton City Council in Ward 8 in the upcoming 2018 municipal election, I have spent the last two months meeting with as many community stakeholders as possible to help establish what Ward 8 voters are looking for in a candidate.
In this post, I have outlined three key assets that I have to offer as a candidate for Ward 8.
Why Vote For John-Paul Danko on October 22nd, 2018?
It’s funny, when I finished second to Donna Skelly in the 2016 Ward 7 by-election by 92 votes, there were 22 candidates in the race.
There were a mix of candidates supported by all three political parties, city hall insiders, radio and TV personalities and most candidates didn’t even live in the ward they were running to represent.
As it turns out, the 2018 Hamilton municipal election for Ward 8 is shaping up with a very similar slate of candidates.
The following Ward 8 city council candidates are registered for the October 22nd Hamilton municipal election:
John-Paul Danko, P. Eng. – Professional Engineer, independent, lives in Ward 8.
Eve Adams – Politician, former Conservative / Liberal Party MP, lived in Mississauga – unknown connection to Ward 8.
Steve Ruddick – CHCH TV personality endorsed by Councillor Terry Whitehead, does not live in Ward 8, Liberal Party member. Click here for Steve Ruddick’s campaign Facebook page.
Colleen Wicken – Executive Secretary to Councillor Terry Whitehead, Progressive Conservative Party member. Click here for Colleen Wicken’s campaign website.
Christopher Climie – Real Estate Agent, independent.
Anthony Simpson – Small business owner, community volunteer, independent, lives in Ward 8.
Here’s why I think I offer a fresh new choice in Ward 8 and why I hope I can earn your vote on October 22nd, 2018.
I believe I am the only Ward 8 candidate that has the genuine real world qualifications to sit on city Council as a executive director of a two billion dollar corporation (the Corporation of the City of Hamilton).
I am a professional civil engineer with twenty year’s experience designing, building and maintaining bridges, roads, watermains and managing multi-million dollar contracts.
I am also a small business owner, running several small businesses in the City of Hamilton.
My experience as an engineer, project manager and business owner has provided me with the training needed to quickly assess difficult issues and reach complex decisions at an executive level.
My experience has taught me how important it is to follow through with a decision once it has been made.
Most importantly, I have worked with municipalities across the province and have first hand experience with how projects and services are tendered, how municipal departments operate and the impact an effective versus ineffective council can have.
In Ward 8 we need a councillor who will stop talking and start doing!
I know it sounds obvious, but I truly believe that your city council representative should actually live in the ward they are running to represent.
I live in Ward 8 with my wife and two children (and three cats).
Ward 8 is where my friends and neighbours live, where my kids go to school, where they play, where our favorite parks and restaurants are – Ward 8 is where I feel the most connected.
I am an independent candidate.
I don’t have a political party trying to get me elected. I don’t have endorsements from past or present Hamilton councillors. I haven’t worked as a councillor’s assistant or lobbyist. I don’t have connections to city hall insiders, unions or special interest groups.
What I do have is support from across the entire political spectrum.
As an independent candidate I have the freedom to truly represent the residents of Ward 8 – no strings attached.
On October 22nd 2018, I truly hope I can earn your vote for Ward 8.
